- Smart collections that auto-populate from a description
- Reading stats with genre, mood, and complexity breakdowns
- Customizable goals, streaks, and tiered achievements
- Series tracking including unreleased volumes
- Opt-in community with shareable public profiles, private by default
How Oxumaq compares
Goodreads has the largest community. StoryGraph has great mood tracking. Fable has book clubs and a strong community-centric approach. Oxumaq brings state-of-the-art curation, top-shelf backlog management, natural-language search, and a personal reading assistant together under one roof: free, ad-free, and private by default.
Specialized in
recommendations and TBR management
Oxumaq is built around three things it does better than any other app: recommending books, easily managing an (overwhelming) backlog, and finding books in the most natural way. You will not find another app at this level.
Recommendations based on your actual reading history.
Other reading apps tell you what matches your filters. Oxumaq tells you what you'd love. The curator knows your whole library and how you felt about these books (reviews, reading pace, etc), makes a taste profile, and then names the possible next steps with a reason for every pick. Or, you can just straight up ask and brainstorm.
Top-shelf backlog management
Describe a theme and Oxumaq builds a smart collection that fills and updates itself. You can also organize books in collections manually, or let our curator analyze your library and suggest some smart collections. A 300-book TBR isn't a problem to feel guilty about or get stressed over, it's a library to enjoy.
Describe it
any way you want
No more guessing at titles or wrestling with filters. Ask for what you're in the mood for, in your own words, and Oxumaq finds the match.
Oxumaq does a lot more
The three pillars sit inside a complete app. Here is everything else, tap any to jump straight to it.
Track your books in one place
Shelves, progress, series and streaks. Track the page count, simply mark that you read, or do not track at all. We are cool with anything. Every book you read sharpens the taste profile that powers your recommendations.
Beautiful shelves
Organize with shelves that look as good as your taste.
Track your progress
Log a page count, jot a reading note, or just count the day.
Follow book series
Track series and which books you have on your shelf, even unreleased ones.
It learns your taste,
then finds your next favorite
The more you read, the sharper Oxumaq gets. It builds a living taste profile from the books you love, the moods you reach for and the complexity you enjoy, then turns it into recommendations that feel hand-picked.
- A taste profile that's truly yoursGenre, mood, prose complexity, thematic depth, themes, literary qualities and many more, discovered automatically and refined with every book.
- Go deeper in what you loveSurface the obscure-but-brilliant picks hiding in the genres you already read, filling in your blind spots.
- Explore uncharted territoryReady to go wider? Oxumaq finds the right doorway into a genre you've never touched, matched to the taste you already have.
Two examples of the signals we use. Oxumaq uses many more, including those you see under the next section.
Seven pilgrims journey to the distant world of Hyperion, each telling a tale in a different genre, all circling one lethal mystery. A frame narrative that reshaped modern sci-fi.
You lean philosophical and worldbuilding-heavy, and rate prose highly. Hyperion's layered frame structure rewards exactly that taste.
Know a book
before page one
Every book page distills what matters: the mood and dimensions, how dense it reads, what it earned, how long it will take you, and where to go next.
- Deep insights, mood to dimensionScored across mood and eight reading dimensions, plus accolades and linguistic and thematic complexity. The texture of a book before you start.
- Feel & matchBefore starting, based on your reader profile, Oxumaq tells you why you may like or dislike this book, so you can make an informed decision.
- Your journey through itRemaining time at your pace, private notes, a reading-activity view and a burndown chart that tracks the book to the last page.
- If you loved thisRecommendations drawn from your taste sit right on the page, so the next read is always one tap away.

Good to know
Oxumaq is a personal reading tracker focused on personalized recommendations. Free, and no app download needed. It helps you log the books you read, get personalized recommendations, chat about books spoiler-free, track progress, manage your streaks, follow series, and use state-of-the-art tools to help you find new reads based on your taste and manage your TBR backlog. The name oxumaq is Azerbaijani for "to read".
Oxumaq was started by a small group of reading enthusiast friends as an answer to the big reading apps out there, they all had shortcomings that we felt we could tackle in a single platform. See also the question below, "How is it different from other reading apps?"
Goodreads has the largest community. StoryGraph has great mood tracking. Fable has book clubs and a strong community-centric approach. We respect what each platform does well, but none of them have state-of-the-art curation with user experience as a first-class citizen, top-shelf TBR and backlog management, a curator that allows you to manage everything using natural language, powerful natural-language search, or recommendations on the level of Oxumaq.
We consider the following set of functionalities as must-haves:
- Modern layout with user experience first
- Excellent backlog (TBR) management
- Smart collections that update themselves based on a description
- Best-in-class book recommendation and discovery
- Cutting edge assistant to help you manage everything
- Spoiler-free chat about books in-depth
- Natural language search ("astronaut stranded on mars", "sci-fi under 200 pages", "easy reads")
- Reader profile insights (taste- and mood profile, reading timeline and heatmap, pages-over-time, etc)
- Dynamic goals highly tailored to your needs
- Gamification with tiered achievements that reward actually reading, not just collecting
None of the above platforms cover all of these, and especially not for free.
The reality is that building and maintaining a platform like this has a cost of time, energy and to some extent, money. The Oxumaq team does it for the love of the game. We are passionate about building software, reading, and statistics, and we are currently happy to put in our own time and money to make this available for free. Our payment is seeing people happily using this and getting a real benefit from it. We are financially independent and monetization of this platform is not our goal. We don't have a revenue model in mind.
We therefore solemnly swear that we will treat your data with the utmost respect - not selling it or giving it away, while also being free of ads.
Spark is Oxumaq's built-in book curator and assistant. It reads your shelf and your logged reading data, builds a profile, then powers your workflow. Want to mass update collections? Let's do it. Find 1 or 100 new books within certain constraints? Also possible. Create smart collections that update themselves? Great. Philosophically interpret the ending of your cryptic last read? Spark can do it all!
Spark has your full profile information: what books you have in your library and in what states, ratings you left, your streak data, genre/mood/complexity distribution, etc. In addition, it knows about most of the books out there in the world. Spark can do anything for you through chat that you can do yourself by clicking around.
- Manage your books (add to library, update status, rating, review, start/finish dates, remove from library)
- Manage your shelves/collections (add books, remove books, list books, create/delete collections, copy books between collections)
- Create smart collections that auto-populate based on a description
- Recommend and find books, either from your library or from "out there", with a reason why it matches your taste
- Find books by vague descriptions ("astronaut stranded on mars", "wizard teens in a castle", "epic fantasy heist")
- Side-by-side book comparisons
- Store your reading preferences and dislikes for better recommendations
- On a book's detail page, Spark explains why it suits you based on your profile
- On your "Me" page, Spark provides a 3-paragraph insight analysis of your reading behaviors
- Spark provides a short tagline on your Me page based on your reading data
- Spark keeps a dedicated shelf in your library full of recommendations based on your taste
- Spark surfaces hidden gems from your TBR on the Discover page, and can find books to match any mood
Very, this is one of the areas where we significantly beat our competition.
Search in plain language by plot or vibe. For example, "astronaut stranded on Mars" finds The Martian, or try "philosophical sci-fi under 200 pages", and stack on hard filters like a Goodreads score of 4.0 or above. Other examples: "books with unreliable narrators", "easy to read fantasy", "fantasy about an epic heist", "dense literary fiction", you name it.
Based on any of these natural language searches, you can build a smart collection that automatically updates with any books you add to your library and satisfies the description.
No. Everything is private by default. Community features and a shareable public profile are entirely opt-in unless you choose to turn them on. There are no leaderboards. You can share your handle with friends and choose to follow each other, but your profile is not "out there".
Oxumaq is a web application, so there is nothing to download and you can access it from anywhere. All you need is your email inbox or a passkey on your phone (like Face ID).
On your phone you can add Oxumaq to your home screen as a shortcut, so it opens full-screen just like a native app.
Yes. You can import your library from Goodreads or StoryGraph during onboarding, or at any later time from your settings. You can also export everything back to CSV whenever you like.
